Elaine Mai shares the electronic and symphonic rush of EP title track "The Colour of the Night"
Irish musician Elaine Mai is set to drop her new EP later this month, and today she's unveiling the title track.
Having recently released a moving remix of Liz Flume's "Sheets", the Dublin-based musician has turned her attention back to her own music with the stirring "The Colour of the Night".
Primarily an instrumental, the track recalls late '90s ambient electronic music in its echoing percussion and atmospheric synths, teasing peaks and drops until Mai finally delivers on a soaring outro. Sampled strings swoop in with a choir of voices, then the drop comes with reinforced beats and Mai's plaintive vocal refrain of "oh you left me, left me lost...left lost in your light". It's a devastating moment, suggesting someone struggling to deal with their grief and trying to process it in the only way they know how.
