"We Don’t Have A Sail But We Have A Rudder" is a wonderfully wayward journey by El Ten Eleven
There are a number of acts out there proving that less can be more. The likes of Giraffes? Giraffes!, TTNG and Alpha Male Tea Party utilise their two or three members to create a sound far more than the sum of its parts. El Ten Eleven is right at the top of that list.
Due to release their latest record, Banker’s Hill, on 10 August, the duo of Kristian Dunn (bass and guitar) and Tim Fogarty (drums) have unveiled "We Don’t Have A Sail But We Have A Rudder" as the third and final single to come before the launch.
A dizzying array of gorgeous guitar melodies and drums, the wonderful apparent aimlessness of the track is what makes it a glistening post-rock gem. The duo expertly weave their instruments around one another, egging themselves on to kick back into another stunning repetition.
The real beauty here is in the steer El Ten Eleven gives to a seemingly wayward series of melodies. It makes the whole journey feel totally organic, marrying the exhilaration of simply going with the flow with the security of knowing roughly where you’re going to end up.
