Brighton’s Ed Tullett releases softly electrifying new single, “Ply”
Listeners spellbound by Novo Amor and Ed Tullett’s 2014 delicate and spacious single “Faux” will dive headlong into Tullett’s newest and most striking song to date, “Ply”. The Brighton-based songwriter has released the softly electrifying track ahead of his debut album Fiancé, slated for CD, digital download, and limited 180 gram vinyl release via Monotreme Records on 19 February.
“Ply” is diaphanous, slow-burning, and carefully wrought. The organic beauty of Tullett’s sweeping falsetto, celestial electronics, and surreal lyrics (“open, sheer ply all / cold on re-arrival / sulfur, neon idol”) combine for a richly compelling listening experience.
Tullett’s keen awareness of space within his compositions is palpable as the song pauses for breath, ascends, and transforms. Not quite folk nor electronica, “Ply” is the sound of Tullett splicing elements from these genres into a sound all his own.
