Listen: Early Ghost – “Devil’s Got Me Now” [Premiere]
Psych-folk lot Early Ghost drum up excitement for new single “Devil’s Got Me Now”, premiering today on Best Fit.
The relative newcomers pair a heady helping of layered vocals and reverb to craft a vintage vibe so authentic you can practically smell the weed and incense in the air. But Early Ghost’s appeal can’t just be reduced to a few familiar 'Summer of Love' folk tropes. A saxophone solo at 2 minutes and 30 seconds adds a hint of soul to the hazy fusion of keyboard and electric guitars, and the weaving of male/female harmonies throughout only bolsters the sextet’s impressive wall of sound.
Speaking about the track, bandmember Mike O'Malley said: "When we started writing this song, I think half of us secretly wanted it to be a Stones 'Let It Bleed' outtake and the other half wanted it to be a Led Zeppelin III outtake. I like to think we met somewhere in the middle.
Lyrically the song details unshakeable issues with the idea of sleeping, bouts of paranoia and problems with the personal association that sleep equals death. This song is facing up to that a bit".In recent years, Early Ghost have racked up supporting slots for the likes of Beirut, Neutral Milk Hotel and First Aid Kit as well as playing sets at Green Man, The Great Escape and Brighton’s Drill Festival. The vibrant and polished “Devil’s Got Me Now” has them poised for a breakthrough in their own right.
"Devil's Got Me Now" is released on 23 March via digital download and vinyl.
