Leeds prog-punks Eagulls put out their debut EP on Canadian label Deranged Records at the beginning of 2013, although it’s unfortunate that many were introduced to them via that infamously venomous note to the industry - damning its penchant for a surf-pop outfit – rather than the record’s snarling, melodic verve.
A wailing, guffawing guitar intro, and a malaise of feedback comprise the opening few moments of ‘Nerve Endings’, their latest release, this time on Brooklyn’s Partisan. Bounding toms and the odd splitting of crash and ride are about all that clamber over the melee, while vocalist George Mitchell’s focused chattering seeps into the gaps between marauding percussion and yowling post-punk rhythms.
‘Nerve Endings’ is out 30 September on 7″ vinyl and comes bundled with a cover of Killing Joke’s ‘Requiem’.
