Droni Mitchell offer a refreshingly escapist soundscape on "Teach Your Feet To Fly"
Droni Mitchell join forces once again for "Teach Your Feet To Fly", an original work inspired by the lyrics to Joni Mitchell’s "River".
Deliberately communicating only by email, Droni Mitchell (comprising Saskatchewan's Jon Neher and UK-based Ro Cemm) fired ideas back and forth until an idea for what blossomed into "Teach Your Feet To Fly" slowly started to come together. Having heard one too many insipid covers of Joni's winter classic "River", they decided to cover the ideas in the song, rather than covering the song itself.
Taking the idea of having "a river to skate away on" literally, the track builds around the placid sounds of ice-skating on a river, while the tranquil twinkles of a music box throw back to the original's "Jingle Bells" refrain. In a difficult year when a lot of us have spent a lot of time stuck indoors, the idea of the freedom and gracefulness of being able to skate away on a frozen river under the open skies is a refreshing, escapist notion.
Earlier this year the duo (as NNGM) reworked Metz’s "Lost In The Blank City", turning the abrasive wall of noise barn-burner into a ten-minute-plus exploration of finding nature amongst the chaos of the modern city as part of the Isolate/Create series.
