Dreamer Boy uncorks his tears on the psychedelic-inspired "Crybaby"
Nashville-based alt-pop artist Dreamer Boy is letting it all out on his cathartic new single.
Led by singer/songwriter Zachary Arthur Taylor, Dreamer Boy encapsulates feelings of nostalgic among trippy hip hop beats, woozy synths and mesmerising guitar riffs. Revealing their second single of the year sees them unleash one of the most vulnerable tracks to date.
“This song is about friendships, courage, and love,” Taylor explains. “I wrote it after a psychedelic experience that led to an outpouring of emotions that were bottled up for a long time. This song is meant to be that release."
"Crybaby" captures universal feelings and condenses them into a slick pop song which revels in the joy of letting your sadness physically manifest itself. Marrying dutiful Americana with experimental forward-looking production, its the track's hypnotic guitars which are a keystone feature and blur the old with the new.
Misty-eyed hopefulness and pair after pair of rose-tinted glasses may come into play, but once put through Dreamer Boy's unique lens looking back at the past can take many forms.
Dreamer Boy is an expert at evoking nostalgia. It's been clear since their expertly-named breakthrough full-length debut Love, Nostalgia dropped and it's just as evident on this year's first singles "Know You" and now "Crybaby".
