Bergen's Doriansgrave reveals his stirring spoken word/hip hop combination on new single "For You"
Nigeria-born but residing in the Norwegian city of Bergen for the last ten years, poet/artist Doriansgrave makes extremely hypnotic music.
The founder of Bergen's underground poetry scene (yes, I had no idea it existed either after two visits to the city), Doriansgrave's "For You" expresses his two loves of spoken word and hip hop in a sparse and affecting fashion
There's little to the track other than a vocal sample, piano and beats and Doriansgrave's deep, sonorous voice and precise raps holding it all together. Reminiscent of Ghostpoet but inhabiting a whole different lyrical world, "For You" is a unique and striking introduction into a world whose centre is Bergen, but has its origins in Lagos.
