Tik Tok sensation Dominique showcases her skills with bombastic new single "Priority"
It's been well over two years since NYC-based singer/songwriter and producer Dominique treated us to a shiny new pop banger, but "Priority" is more than that, it's an evolution.
Following the release of her viral Tik Tok turned full-blown track "Girls Can't Produce", today Dominque shares her first single since 2018. Responding to a sexist comment become this video which sees Dominique flex for the most unreal musical takedown. "Girls Can't Produce" is a hit in itself.
To get to the point where Dominique can whip up a diss track that sounds this fresh took time. Having hit pause and given herself a moment to look back, Dominique knew she had to hit reset to continue to grow. With focus away from her artist project, the songwriter and producer worked on honing her skills, collaborating and forming a new perspective.
"I've reflected on the music I've in the past and thought about what I could be doing differently to better myself as a music maker," she explains. "I realised that I don't want to be making music for "easy listening" – I want each song to have its own complexity and unique sound."
While "Priority" may initially sound like it picks up where Dominique left off with its heavy bass, glitchy, chopped vocals and an incredible auto-screamed bridge the producer slides firmly in hyperpop territory. Reminiscent of Dylan Brady or A.G. Cook with some trap and K-pop influences thrown in for good measure the result is pretty unique.
"For the first time, I didn’t cut any corners while making a song. I sat in my room, alone, and re-worked the beat over and over again until it worked. Although it might not be for everyone, I’ve never been more satisfied with the music I’m making and "Priority" is just the beginning of a new chapter in my production and writing style."
As well as figuring out who she is an artist, the past couple of years have seen Dominique release sample packs with Ableton and Splice, including the latter's first K-pop pack with MDA and EJAE.
