Dolores Haze subvert all expectations with the murky electro-pop sound of their latest single
Incorporating skittish beats and pulsing, bassy notes, "Play Hard Fuck Hard Love Hard" shakes away any presumptions that may be held of the band by both naysayers and fans alike.
Named after the child protagonist of classic novel Lolita, Dolores Haze are not ones to shy away from making a statement. Following the likes of this year’s previous single "Banana" – a hot take on #MeToo culture, consent and the ire of unsolicited dick pics – "Play Hard Fuck Hard Love Hard" touches upon the tolling nature of a vacuous quest for love amidst living life at 100mph.
A darkly sensual undercurrent carries the verse, Groovy Nickz flirting with playful misdemeanour before delivering a chorus that takes ownership of any questionable deeds. This time brushing aside their fiercer and more abrasive creative cues, the Swedish trio enlist a softer tone (not dissimilar to recent Warpaint) and welcome us into their brand of darkness along the way.
“This song is for all the destructive party people, looking for love in the wrong places, loving the wrong people too hard,” share the band of their latest outing. “Giving so much but never seeming to feel content. Going around in the same circles. Ending up feeling nothing but emptiness”.
