YouTuber Dodie shares acoustic version of "When" ahead of EP release
Breaking out from her successful YouTube channel, London singer-songwriter Dodie Clark is preparing for the release of her debut EP Intertwined next week.
Sharing the closing track “When”, Clark showcases her penchant for relatable lyrics as well as her beautiful voice in a breathtaking live session.
The EP is a culmination of the experiences and lessons Clark has learned along the way. “I've been working on this since I began”, but admits “I still have so much left to learn”.
“Music has always been the foundation to my content, so I've been writing since I can remember,” Clark explains. She adds that despite previous attempts at launching with “proper production”, “none of [them] followed through, or worked how I wanted to”. Nearing a million streams of Spotify, debut single “Sick of Losing Soulmates” seems to suggest this release cycle is definitely working out.
“When” comes to us in the format which Clark is most familiar with releasing, but is still another step into unfamiliar territory. “The main difference between YouTube and full production is the waiting time.” Used to uploading her original tracks as soon as her videos were edited, she adds, “I forgot that no one else had been hearing what I'd been hearing every day, for weeks.” The collaborative element is also new, but Clark is now “so happy with how these songs have developed.”
While the project has been - in essence - years in the making, stylistically it may not be a marker of thing to come. “I haven't solidified my sound or found out who I am musically at all yet [and] I don't know if I ever will”.
