DNKL return with the brilliant push-and-pull of pop-house hybrid "Draft"
It's about eighteen months since we last heard from Swedish trio DNKL, but they're back in some style with a brand new single.
"Draft" is the first track since 2015's "Otherside" and continues the Gothenburg band's experiment with dance music textures applied to pop structures.
Beginning with an off-kilter synth throb that's more akin to R&B than anything DNKL has done before, the track quickly veers off into pulsating territory thanks to an insistent 4/4 club beat. Yet the pop heart of the Swedes is never lost in the house grooves thanks to a sweet vocal melody and heady harmonies.
The song is a huge return for DNKL; this is - to finally wear out that overused word - an absolute banger.
