Denmark's Vera recruits Okay Kaya for lilting number "Falling"
Copenhagen-based producer Vera has announced details of his first London show and joined forces with Okay Kaya for new single "Falling".
This track follows May's stellar "In And Out Of Love" jam, and sees Vera - who's worked with Liss, Goss, and Off Bloom - moving from night to day. Out are the sweltering sax stabs and in are Latin guitars and misty vocals (plus a nice nod to Prince) - it's still wrapped in billowing plumes of steam, but the lightness on display shows off an unseen side to Vera's work.
"I wrote 'Falling' after a long summer listening to Buena Vista Social Club and the Swedish singer Lisa Ekdahl," says Vera. "I was obsessed with the percussion and the guitar melodies of Buena Vista and I love the soft gentle intimacy from Lisa Ekdahl. These are artists my parents listened to when I was growing up - all the albums had such an intimate vibe which is what I had in mind when I wrote Falling. I guess I see it at as my interpretation of the music my parents were dancing to when I was a kid. I brought in Kaya because I’m a big fan of hers. One day I stumbled along a song she had sung in Norwegian called 'Durer'. It was so natural and it reminded me of some of the earliest Lisa Ekdahl songs. Then I sent my demo of 'Falling' to Kaya and asked if she would be up for writing her own part in Norwegian."
Vera has also detailed his debut London show, which takes place 21 September at the UK capital's Scotch of St. James. It's free but you'll need to email RSVP@whatstheforecast.co.uk for entry.
The Danish artist is currently in the studio with compatriot and superstar MØ.
