deep tan drop the simmering and existential "hollow scene"
East London based three piece deep tan have released "hollow scene", the final single from their upcoming EP creeping speedwells.
In contrast to their debut single "camelot", which deep tan described as "a love letter to the sesh", "hollow scene" covers slightly more existential territory, exploring "the tension between a meaningless universe and our constant striving to find meaning."
“Hollow Scene is about the feeling of having to move through life with a certain level of detachment in order to function," say the band. "Gatekeeping empathy for the sake of an easy life, if you will. It’s a pretty draining business, though, and can make any real search for meaning feel futile. Meursault was wrong and he was right. Robert Smith, however, is always right.”
Despite this, "hollow scene" is a groovy, brooding little number, with a simmering bassline and an off-kilter chorus. deep tan are sure to appeal to fans of some of the more eclectic, acerbic side of indie rock, like Speedy Ortiz and Dream Wife, or anyone who appreciates a bit of Sonic Youth.
