Listen: Dark Horses – “Live On Hunger”
Currently embarking on a Europe-wide tour in anticipation of their sophomore release Hail Lucid State, Dark Horses hone their electro-rock stylings on new release “Live On Hunger”.
After a successful 2013 that saw the release of their synth laden enigmatic debut Black Music, Brighton’s own Dark Horses mark their triumphant return on the Richard Fearless (of Death In Vegas fame) produced “Live On Hunger”. Elevating their sound to a roaring, guitar driven tirade that pays homage to power driven rock’n’roll in its purest form, the song combines Lisa Elle’s vocals with Dark Horses’ electronica-based roots, creating a rip-roaring hint at a possible change in sound to come on their new release.
When Elle repeats, over an energetic and momentous rhythm, that, despite being “lost for good, yes, and paranoid” she’s still alive, the unshakeable spirit of the elusive Dark Horses is really given the opportunity to shine. At times recalling Monster Hospital-era Metric, and the melodic shoegaze of Pity Sex, “Live on Hunger” is Dark Horses’ anthem for powering through despite what might get thrown at you along the way.
