Announced as one of Labrador’s new signings for 2011 back at the start of the year, the debut album from Det Vackra Livet is due to drop May 2. Fundamentally a side project of Philip and Henrik Ekström who are more commonly known as the principle songwriters in The Mary Onettes, Det Vackra Livet appears to be more of an experimental vehicle for the brothers – allowing them to free the shackles of the Onettes’ monochrome 1980s template. The Mary Onettes in technicolor - for want of a better phrase.
Adding a splash of colour to recent single ‘Viljan’ is Dan Lissvik of Studio. Nothing new happens here that you wouldn’t have already heard in a Lissvik re-rub from the past few years, but that’s no criticism. Prog-tinged beach party workout? Got it in one.
