More eclectic with each release, those following the work of Dan Croll are continuously wrong-footed in any attempt to predict what his debut LP will sound like. For now all we can do is enjoy the sporadic single releases from Staffordshire’s brightest and shiniest songwriter.
Full of surprises, Croll’s vintage folk-tinged ‘Home’ begins with steady picking, before building on layer upon layer of brightly sung backing vocals, highlighted by Croll’s soft but resilient lead and eventually punctuated by some gloriously out of place, but so at home steel drums. It’s a far cry from the previous electro-pop dance number ‘In/Out’ and again, from the more anthemic ‘From Nowhere’ but its unmistakably Croll; full of heart, and full of fun.
