Cosmic Strip take a celestial turn on new single "Heavenly"
It marks the return of the London band after an eight-month sabbatical following darkly alluring previous single "Echo Chamber".
Described by frontwoman and mastermind of the project Camella Agabaylan as “a song dedicated to the addictive feeling of your first love”, "Heavenly" carefully weaves a tale of the inextricable anxiety and elevated euphoria of burgeoning romance.
Opening with a delicate plucking of strings, breathy whispers and the expectant rumbling of bass, the track lulls listeners into a false sense of security as it slowly tightens its grip, before unleashing lucidly psychedelic riffs and pummelling drums. Suitably, as the track intensifies Agabaylan finds volume in her voice, solidity in her emotions and a confidence in her words. “I breathe you until you’re something that tastes like nothing. I feel you and see the world as a different hue”.
With Agabaylan previously describing Cosmic Strip as “music to watch girls by, music to move the stars”, "Heavenly" reinforces the band as one worthy of comparisons to dream pop purveyors Alvvays and Beach House, and one that knows it’s worth its salt.
