London quartet Colouring share string-accompanied new single "Heathen"
Colouring's stunning new single "Heathen" comes complete with a beautiful string section, which really makes the track.
London-based quartet Colouring released their debut EP Symmetry at the end of last year, which featured an impressive cover of Marvin Gaye classic "I Heard It On The Grapevine". New single "Heathen" is the first to be taken from the band's forthcoming second EP, due for release this summer.
"I desperately wanted to work with string players," says Colouring’s Jack Kenworthy, lead vocalist and songwriter. "It was such a cool experience. ‘Heathen’ was inspired by a lot of the Motown and jazz styles that I grew up on. I wanted it to have a groove that wouldn't feel out of place being heard after a slower hip-hop song, like Kendrick’s 'Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe'."
The new track shows a clear progression and growth in the band's cinematic sound, which is down to those beautiful strings. "Heathen" is atmospheric, rich and ripe for repeat.
