Nashville export Coco Reilly makes her debut with the blazing passion of "Define You"
"Define You" is a glowing snippet of warm, country-tinged psychedelica that will capture your attention as well as your heart.
Explaining the song's origins, Coco Reilly says "'Define You' started as a song for someone else and then halfway through I decided to write it for myself. I thought: What kind of love song could someone write for me that would really sweep me off my feet?” It's a song that reads like a love letter, one that Reilly would both want to receive as well as give to another.
Jangling melodies embody the song's inherently heartfelt nature, whilst Reilly's understated vocal delivery retains a sense of real vulnerability as she shyly wears her heart on her sleeve and reveals what she really longs for.
The twanging slide guitar adds a further layer of old-country romanticism to the track, but when meshed with the intergalatic, panning psychedelic guitars that smash against it, it makes for a far more interesting listen that some traditional love song. It evokes the flames of passion and the very height of impassioned infatuation and feels fiercely original and striking in its delivery.
Reilly further explains what the song means to her personally, saying "After experiencing a relationship that contained strong elements of insecurity and jealousy, I was pretty burned out and it made me think: How do I avoid this going forward? What can I learn from it, and how do I make sure I keep my own emotions in check so I never make anyone else feel that way? I had been trying to cook this complex concept in my head into a simple message that served as a baseline of how I would want to be treated and how I intend to treat someone else. The music in the song matches how I think love should feel. Happy, warm, easy-going and free."
