Club Kuru forge their own path on hallucinogenic tune "Double L"
Club Kuru have returned after a brief breather with "Double L", a funked-up helping of wonderfully gooey psychedelic pop.
The quintet are following up their Waiting At The Corner debut, which was released earlier this year, with this supremely groovy number. Oozy beats and basslines create a sticky bedrock for passages of infectious melodic beauty to strut about on - "Double L" is a track that touches on a few styles, such as '70s funk, modern psych, and jazzy pop, without ever really committing to any. The results are hypnotic and cathartically odd.
"This song is about excusing yourself of responsibility and about asking how much you can accept things the way they are," explains bandleader Laurie Erskine.
Club Kuru are set to play London's Sebright Arms on 7 September - more live dates are due to be revealed in the near future.
