Listen: Cloud Control – “Praise You” (Fatboy Slim Cover)
Austrailian Blue Mountains dwellers Cloud Control are currently on a relentless tour from Oz to America, pursuing the promotion of their celestial second album, Dream Cave. Today hears the gang try something really quite different: a cover of a Fatboy Slim classic.
The band’s brand-new track is a blissful cover of Slim’s 1999 big beat hit, “Praise You”. Abandoning the piano-heavy composition of the original (then promoted by Spike Jonze’s standout music video) Cloud Control infuse the song with psychedelic chanting and endless keyboard loops. The quartet excitedly seem to create a tear in the space-time continuum, in which 1960s American mind-expanding-hippies meet up with 1970s German electronic-pioneers. The lyrics, “we’ve come a long, long way together”, have never felt so appropriate.
“Praise You” is featured on 5, a new limited edition vinyl album released as part of Infectious Music’s fifth birthday celebrations for Record Store Day (19 April). The LP features a range of new and exclusive material from Temper Trap, Drenge, Local Natives, The Acid and more.
