Clean Cut Kid impress again with romantically-charged ballad “Twenty Years From Now”

Having announced themselves to the world with one of the most vital, infectious debuts of the year in “Vitamin C”, Clean Cut Kid have revealed a brilliant b-side, showing depth and emotion on top of their obvious knack for pop writing.

The Liverpool quartet - husband and wife Mike and Evelyn Halls, Saul Godman and Ross Higginson - build on from the instant first cut with this slow-burning new one. Once again twitching, fidgety guitar welcomes us into the romantically-charged ballad as Halls’ vocal pines: “Where does your smile go when you are down? / I searched for it for years but I’ve given up now.”

The couple harmonise together, heightening the tension of the tale and the track builds through a cello-infused bridge, to a pounding, fist-clenching conclusion that nods subtly to the guilty pleasure world of the power ballad.
