City Park’s “Getaway” is a luscious late-night groove
Amsterdam-based duo City Park’s sultry R&B soundscapes are a welcome reprieve in the busy metropolis. “Getaway” marks the arrival of their sophomore EP - a sensuous offering encompassing those conflicting feelings of unrequited love.
City Park, AKA producers Sjaak and Saux, are able to seduce the listener with an intricately woven tapestry of alluring guitar rhythms and rich vocal falsetto. Conjuring a sultry dreamland, they describe “Getaway” as “about falling for someone who's still seeing someone else: a morning after story that plays on the need to resist and wanting more at the same time.”
“The title also has two meanings: on the one hand it's the urge to escape the situation as a whole, on the other it's a cry to run away together.”
Although narratively the track is built around this tension between lovers, the track's woozy vibe and soft R&B inflections soothe these anxious reservations, sculpting an oasis for the pair to shelter in.
