Cina Polada add a touch of "Gloom" to their Finnish take on dreampop
Having self-released a few singles over the past couple of years, Finland's Cina Polada are ready to unveil their debut EP.
Led by Hilla, accompanied by brothers Tatu and Teemu and rounded out by Tony and Nita, the band's self-titled debut EP is due out at the end of September, and the first track to be taken from it is the dirgey/lovely "Gloom".
Over washes of synths and a battle between low-end sad major chords and the gleaming chimes of a higher register, Hilla's evocative and echoing vocal takes us through some relationship highs and lows. "I'm just a waste of time", sings the Finn over propulsive bass and drums that give the track a blast of energy. Like an mix of equal parts Flying Nun to Cascine, "Gloom" is a cracking piece of music from Cina Polada.
