Charlotte OC is triumphant on stirring album highlight "Shell"
Charlotte OC shares melancholy-laced new track "Shell", a highlight from her debut album Careless People, which drops at the end of the month,
We've come to know and love Charlotte OC for her honest, dark, brooding alternative-pop and "Shell", next to "Darkest Hour", is perhaps her best work to date. A staple of OC's captivating live sets, "Shell" sets a precedent for the forthcoming full length record, a long time under construction, but well worth the wait.
"['Shell'] is about a situation where you're not allowed to be yourself in a relationship," OC explains. "The whole song is a positive message though; it's about not letting yourself become a 'shell' and that you deserve so much more. I've lived with this song for over three years and it has gone through so many changes, so to finally share it in its final state feels so liberating. I'm proud of this song."
"I don't regret you, I don't resent you, I just forget you were ever around," OC laments - live, this would be the point where you really start to see and hear the emotion the Blackburn native pours into her craft as the final chorus sirens out. The recorded version, however offers restraint and a relative calmness despite the stormy associations to the song. Headlining Omeara, 19 April, the Charlotte OC live experience is not one to be missed.
