Charles Fauna challenges the norms of popular music with debut single "Hypnosis"
Charles Fauna debuts with the spellbinding electronica of "Hypnosis", a refreshing take on the self-aware pop song.
The Brooklyn-based songwriter/producer, née Charlie Mischer, has spent last year honing his electronic, alternative dance sound as Paideia, but this new project aims to expand on those origins. Paideia is an ancient Greek idea surrounding education and excellence, and the Charles Fauna project’s key aims are to "challenge our notions of popular music; moving past typical romance and revelry and into a realm of empathy and self-awareness."
Mischer explains the new single "is about a change of mentality. It deals with the decision to gradually become more connected to the larger world, letting your guard down and becoming more open to all aspects of life both beautiful and terrible. It's a song that embraces vulnerability, and is for anyone who is challenging their own point of view and not sure how to feel."
The idea of hypnosis may seem novel, however in the context of the song and Mischer's art the repeating chords of the piano paired with profound lyrics are indeed entrancing.
