Caoilfhionn Rose explores nature and consciousness with the fragile folkedelia of "Awaken"
The Manchester-based songwriter/producer’s first single is a meditative journey through the wilderness, led by entrancing vocals and mesmeric instrumentation.
Influenced by the likes of The Mummers, Melody’s Echo Chamber and Broadcast, Caoilfhionn Rose - it’s pronounced Keelin by the way - is onto to something special as she prepares for the release of her debut album, also titled Awaken.
Set to be released on independent Manchester label Gondwana Records, the first cut is a confident and expansive one, akin to taking a big, deep breathe in the middle of a mountainous landscape. For Rose though, the song was also a literal awakening, creatively speaking, as she explains, “It was the song that pushed me and moved me out of my comfort zone. Having played solo as a pianist for a couple of years, it inspired me to work with new sounds, musicians with a different approach to making music”.
The track is also accompanied by a music video which sees Rose venture through woodland and across clifftops, taking in the simple, natural beauty that we tend to forget exists all around us.
