Brandon Ares exorcises demons on the visceral "Lower Than Before"
Chameleonic New York artist Brandon Ares banishes a lost love through the cross-genre viciousness of new single "Lower Than Before".
A visceral, genre-blending emotional exorcism that reflects on intense heartache, New York-based performer and visual artist Brandon Ares has shared their latest single “Lower Than Before”. Filtering their emotions through a unique mix of dense beats, industrial-tinged distortion, elegant keys and jagged jungle-style rhythms, Ares has created a provocative new cut that offers glimpses into the shadowy void of the pain caused by a lost love.
Fusing contemporary music styles with their own blend of subversive electronics and sonic manipulations, Ares has crafted a captivating and uncompromising lament on “Lower Than Before”. Mixing atmospheric vocals with their cutting rap verses, Ares dismantles what it means to slip free of a lover’s grip via their candid lyrics and frenzied beats.
Accompanied by a monochrome video, “Lower Than Before” was filmed in a single night in remote woodland. The visuals focus completely on Ares, who is stripped almost to their skin whilst stylishly writhing and crawling in the spotlight, physically reflecting the intense state of emotional exposure and vulnerability that comes with the end of a relationship.
