Relatively little is known of Texan musician Botany aka Spencer Stephenson, but ‘Anchor’, the first offering from his debut album Lava Diviner (Truestory) seeks to change that.
Built on a foundation of diverse but complimentary layers, ‘Anchor’ creates a surrealist and hypnotic soundscape that bears resemblance to a Dali painting, or a scene from Alice in Wonderland. Stephenson has described the, ‘mind-bending but oddly comforting’ landscapes that make up Lava Diviner (Truestory) as ‘sci-fi and epic and holy’, and given the gentleness of ‘Anchor’, we’re already looking forward to hearing some of the deeper and darker extremities of this trinity.
Lava Diviner (Truestory) is released 29 October via Western Vinyl.
