Bolton newcomer Chrystal enchants on chromed-out pop number "2 Real"
Bolton-born artist Chrystal continues her impressive run of nostalgic urban bops with the effortlessly magical "2 Real".
The track joins "Waves" and "New Shoes" to show off the producer/vocalist's sun-kissed sound, with wiry synths that sound like tiny kazoos mixing with warm and glassy vocals. West Coast hip-hop meets sleek R&B and slick pop on Chrystal's latest offering, another joint with producer John Calvert which features mastering from the Grammy-nominated Mandy Parnell (Aphex Twin, Jamie xx).
"Making '2 Real' was an exciting and overwhelming experience," explains Chrystal. "I wrote it on my first studio trip to London working with John Calvert. It started out sounding completely differently to how it ended up but John worked on shaping the music to fit the vibe of what I'd written perfectly. On the train back from London I remember listening to it on repeat all the way home, and knew it was special!"
