"Bleak And Beautiful (All Things)" by Haiku Salut is uniquely stunning [Premiere]
Self-described “Baroque-Pop-Folktronic-Neo-Classical-Something-Or-Other” trio Haiku Salut are premiering new single "Bleak and Beautiful (All Things)" now on Best Fit.
The single features on upcoming second record Etch And Etch Deep, out 31 July. It follows 2013's Tricolore.
Their mouthful-of-a-genre isn't far of, frankly; this tune merges worlds and genres with callous disregard for adhering to the norm. We see techno and minimalist beats coalesce with trad. folk melodies; pastoral pop pastiches pirouette with carnival-noir accordions, tinkling glocks and ambient synths. It's vivid instrumental post-folk that isn't afraid to tear up the rulebook and begin fresh.
The band's Sophie Barkerwood said of the track:
“We’ve chosen this song as our first single because when we wrote it, it made us feel that we’d arrived somewhere. It’s a mix of electronics and rustic instrumentation and it came alive very quickly. We’ve been patch-working genres for a while now and when the song came along it was like the seams weren’t showing anymore and that was exciting. The title is a play on All Things Bright and Beautiful. It recognises that there isn’t anything divine, there isn’t a meaning behind anything, things don’t ‘happen for a reason’, and fate doesn’t exist. A lot of people would probably say that this is a bleak and depressing outlook but it isn’t actually. Doesn’t that make it even more amazing that we exist?”
