Brooding electronic duo Black Channels air "Depth Of Field" ahead of debut single release "Oracles"

14 July 2015, 10:45 | Written by Yasmyn Charles

Luxuriously dense with rumbling synths, Black Channels’ infatuation with occultism and folklore is made strikingly evident on "Depth Of Field". Serving as a tonic to its sombre soundscape, soft female vocals convert the track into a beautifully cinematic vision, making this B-side a welcome discovery from their debut single, "Oracles".

Weaved into the duo’s "dark tapestry" is a thread spun from the darker side of psychedelia. The duo’s sonic experimentation is a lucid trip into the backwaters of sound. "Depth of Field" is both bleakly unwelcoming yet also an enticing incantation in equal measure.

Becky Randall from the band said: "'Depth Of Field' is coming from a place deep within the mysterious labyrinth of being in love with someone who only invites you in so far. Wading through moments of their history to find them, to feel that you can somehow understand this person standing in front of you so present and whole and yet so wholly unreachable.

"It’s understanding the myriad of intimacy you can have with someone you are in love with.. mind, body and soul, but finding yourself utterly stranded in them. A landscape that you recognised in the sunlight but once it’s dark and the wolves are awake you don’t know where you are. Hence the title of the track..it’s trying to bring another being into focus, tracking the distance between you and them, what is clear and what is obscured, and the desperation of calling but not hearing any answer."

Black Channels' debut 10" "Oracles" (featuring B-side 1 "Depth Of Field" and B-side 2 "Whispering Sons") is released this Friday, 17 July via Death Waltz Originals. UK buyers have the option to purchase black & blue marbled colour 10" vinyl (limited to 450 copies). Pre-order now.
