BAYA reveals double dose of electronic brilliance via kaleidoscopic new clip
Experimental artist BAYA is debuting two new cuts from upcoming double EP Oslo / Harlem via a mindblowing new video.
"Gate 212" and "Give Me That Dive" are the offerings (both appear on Side A of the concept-heavy project) presented by BAYA. The singer/producer/multi-instrumentlist, real name Andrew Murray, draws from his backgrounds in the USA, Scotland, and Norway to create a one-of-a-kind mesh that defies categorisation.
On the first of the pair, EP opener "Gate 212", we're met by a spaced-out web of samples and astral melodies. The track includes the voice of artist Sompohi Baya, "one of the first West Africans to receive an international art scholarship to study sculpture in Rome" - Baya is also Murray's father. This ambitious musical project from Murray actually chronicles the trip to meet his father for the first time, and the subsequent journey back home across the Atlantic.
"Give Me That Dive" is a deft jam with euphoric highs and rock-solid lows, buoyed by frosty waves of electronic bliss and directed by erratic vocal shards. It has the power to remove you from reality, even if just for a few minutes.
John Christian Ferner Apalnes has created the sublime animated visuals to accompany the tracks - he used a variety of digital and organic methods to get the delirious sights to mirror the dizzying sounds.
