Having met one another on Tinder, Dublin pair Bad Sea make a splash with debut single “Solid Air”
“Solid Air” is evidence of Bad Sea’s impressive knack for composing eccentric pop gems that also tell a meaningful story.
Although a Tinder date failed to result in a romantic spark, Dublin-based duo Ciara Thompson and Alan Farrell did discover a shared love for music and songwriting when they first met. With romance off the cards, they instead decided to join forces musically - and so began the Bad Sea journey.
The pair’s first single “Solid Air” is an enticing insight into Bad Sea’s musical direction. Driven forward by a steady drum groove, coarse guitar stabs and delicate vocals, “Solid Air” is a strong debut that sets the bar high for the band's future releases.
Perhaps the most striking element of the track is Thompson’s vocal contribution. It’s almost oxymoronic, showcasing her beautifully crisp voice whilst singing about how terrible some men can be in relationships. The lyrics, “You're only just a man/You're not even very strong/What's it like to be a girl whose life was taken by her boyfriend?” highlight this cynicism, pointing to a dark time in a couple’s life.
