
Complex club anthem “You” is a startling introduction to Irish producer Bad Bones
The second single since last year’s soft release “Beg”, “You” is a torrent of maximalist synthesis unbridled in its ferocity.

It is fair to say that you cannot create a soul. It cannot be built or bought, it just exists, it’s use unfathomable but essential. To be soulless is to wander alone, completely consumed by individualism.

Bad Bones doesn't just inhabit that realm, she is the queen of it. There is a neutrality and a balance in all things from the genderless vocal to the closely controlled complexity of the melodic arrangements. She manages to create her own universe of block colours and perfect production, like some ghostly apparition who infuses every element of her artistic output with a piece of herself and in doing so leaves nothing for herself.
“You” attempts to be human, like a robot whose sole mission is to feel something. There is nothing wrong with that approach, in fact there is an unsettling quality about it that makes you want to take another listen to see if there is a glimpse of humanity within.
