Babeheaven unveil very promising first outing in the shape of “Heaven”
“Only in heaven you tell me to be free / Only in heaven you tell me to believe” Babeheaven vocal maestro Nancy coos. And from these gorgeous opening moments, there is something entirely distinguished about the new five-piece.
With influences ranging from Stevie Wonder to Portishead and James Blake, the promising West London group, born out of the friendship between Nancy and guitarist Jamie, who met whilst working on the same street in Ladbroke Grove, have set out their stall for a very bright future.
Utilising the immaculate aforementioned vocal talent at their disposal, “Heaven” (due for release through Handsome Dad / B3SCI on 8 April) is a totally assured first look at what they are capable of, as refined, dreamy production and a slinky, soulful bass line carry the loungey, confident debut along with effortless ease.
Steel pan punctuation and moments of shimmery guitar work bring subtle glimmers of light to the otherwise gently melancholic outing, which was inspired by the death of Nancy’s Mum, who died when she was young; “It’s different for you” she pines with stunning poise.
