Aunty Social chases her dreams in quirky single “Crack A Deal”
Toronto artist Aunty Social announces her debut EP The Day My Brain Broke with the left-field pop of “Crack A Deal”.
All can relate to the inner turmoil of wondering exactly what to pursue in life, and Toronto-based talent Aunty Social is no different. Embarking on her quarter-life crisis that little bit early (she’s now 24), woman behind the moniker Daniela Gitto found herself at a crossroads. “I had to face my own mortality and look at myself and say, you can either do your last year of college in something you’re not completely interested in or you can spend a year trying to pursue something you’ve loved your whole life,” she shares.
It has been clear in the time since that the risk has clearly paid off. Preceded by a collection of singles including this year’s releases “Travelling Circus” and “Trying”, newest outing “Crack A Deal” solidifies Gitto’s unique sound and only reinforces that her gamble was the right one. Imbued with rich synth tones and vocal coos, the new outing deploys skittish beats and left-field sentimentalities as Gitto weaves her vulnerable tale with a crystal vocal precision.
"I worked a 9-5 office job which I hated, but I always stayed because I needed the money,” Gitto continues about her prior situation. “It was tortuous and I was always afraid I'd be stuck there forever if I got too comfortable. It was always me saying, 'just one more year and I'll be done.' I wrote this song about selling my soul to the 9-5 gods and finally accepting my fate."
