Audrey sounds sweet but vicious on the confident, bass-heavy "Soufflé"
As far as songs that nail the 2019 zeitgeist go, Audrey's "Soufflé" has to be up there – look out, Billie Eilish.
There's a strange magnetism to the deadpan weirdness of Audrey's lyrics; one that pairs effortlessly with her of-the-moment sound. Producer Anwar Sawyer harnesses a warped, arcing bass and the tinny skitter of drum machines beneath the singer's sweet yet vicious vocal, and a distorted sample closes the track out with confidence at barely two minutes duration.
It's hard to believe the artist behind "Soufflé" cut her teeth touring the States to sing the national anthem at sporting events. Now pursuing a totally different career path, Audrey aims to deliver her debut EP later this year.
