Mysterious Norwegian trio Anorakk drop dancefloor-ready debut banger "Burning Shoes"
All we know about Norway's Anorakk is that they come from the far north of the country and hide their faces with their titual hoods. Oh, and they make fantastic dance music.
Their debut single "Burning Shoes" is an ode to "being disoriented while wandering around in the city in the middle of the night, and suddenly this random man shows up dancing this crazy and wild dance that makes his shoes burn."
It's hard not to assume it's this very track he's losing his shit to. Beginning with squelching synth bass that's equal parts disco and techno, a female voice coos lines like "it was a starry disco night" over loose and funky percussion. There's elements of Goldfrapp in the singer's gently sensuous vocal and the production sits beautifully between modern crispness and vintage buzz. It really is a terrific introduction to the world of Anorakk.
"We have five dogmes we follow," explains the band, "and one of them is to only use analog synths or acoustic sound." To achieve a sound that never approaches pastiche on "Burning Shoes" while using that approach, signals a talent worth keeping an eye on. You can read the rest of Anorakk's dogme here.
