Annika Zee's "Fantasy" oozes with old-school elegance
Annika Zee announced her debut album Factory Pageant back in September, returning to the spotlight with lead single "Lydia" in the wake of a surprise media blackout.
Second single "Fantasy" sees Zee poised, sure-footed and elegant, as she further refines the sound of the full-length project due out later this month. Reverb-heavy guitar melds with elegant, old-school vocals on the swirling, laid-back track. "Fantasy" closes with an echoing refrain: "They can't take our fantasies away", a line that feels particularly poignant in the context of current global instabilities.
There's a marked confidence to "Fantasy"'s understated sound – Zee knows when to hold back, and throwing the kitchen sink at this track certainly wouldn't have done it any favours. As is, it's inviting and intriguing; a hand extended to guide you into the world of Factory Pageant.
