Aniya delivers a dreamy electro-pop anthem for facing your demons
Aniya turns internal struggle into a laid-back electro-pop anthem in debut track “Demon”.
With the haunting yet memorable hook, “Am I the demon inside?”, Aniya questions her complicity in her own unhappiness. Throughout “Demon”, Aniya moves effortlessly between her lower and upper vocal registers, matching the track’s lyrical depth. While her rich, soulful vocals evoke R&B artists like Mary J Blige, the electronic twist keeps it contemporary, à la British songwriter Låpsley. It’s surprisingly relatable in spite of the deeply personal lyrics.
Having worked with Tony Cousins (who has worked with Annie Lennox and Adele), and now engulfed in a flurry of industry activity, this might just differentiate Aniya in the crowded alternative pop market.
