Ambar Lucid's perceptions exude pure positivity on “Head Down”
Following up her stellar second album Garden of Lucid, Ambar Lucid is back to grace us with her silky new track “Head Down”.
The Dominican/Mexican-American singer-songwriter's perceptions exude pure positivity on the track, with strong messages encouraging us all to look past technology and re-connect with one another and our surroundings in a real way – salient words we all need right now, regardless of lockdown.
Ambar Lucid dips between Spanish and English in her lyrics to create a distinct sound, and “Head Down” is no different - a track oozing with such tranquillity you don’t even notice the change of language as you’re sent travelling with her lulling vocals. Her wide-ranging pitch is showcased against a simple, sultry R&B beat combining to magnetising effect.
"When I was writing ‘Head Down’ I wanted to write a song about the importance of being present,” Ambar Lucid says. “Many people, including myself, can easily disconnect and distract themselves by getting lost in whatever it is they do on their phones. Because of that we may miss the messages and lessons the universe is trying to communicate with us.”
“I wanted to express the eerie feeling that is present when I choose to snap out of dissociating. Everyone feels so far away because of the distance constantly being on a phone has created. This song is a reminder to put your phone down and examine the things occurring around you in the present moment."
It’s little wonder that the wildly imaginative artist has released her own documentary titled Llegaron Las Flores about reuniting with her father years after he was deported to Mexico.
