Amaroun teases debut album Helmet with stark pop ballad "If This Is"
Peckham-based artist Amaroun shares "If This Is", a tender new ballad full of heart-stopping emotion and warm melodies.
"If This Is" uses lo-fi keys and percussion as a foundation for Amaroun's stark vocal performance - it's a threadbare sliver of soul baring, with pillowy harmonies adding a warmth to the proceedings. Amaroun's latest offering is endlessly intimate, but a bold sense of pop infectiousness is retained - it's simple, but you won't get this out your head for days.
The accompanying video is a sincere look into Amaroun's life, with personal footage mixed with iPhone-shot performance snippets.
The track appears on the singer/songwriter's upcoming album Helmet, which has the "awakening of their sexual identity" at its core.
"I didn’t know but I always knew," says Amaroun. "One day you just get brave and let yourself be. I was in love... exclusively in love with her. It came out in a stream of songs and then I leaped and told the rest, no restrictions."
Amaroun has some London dates in the coming months, including a 22 November show at Peckham's The Nines where you can hear Helmet in full.
