Amani blends the feather-light and the industrial on “Feathers Falling”
South London’s Amani makes pop music for fans of Seinabo Sey and Esben and the Witch - richly textured and emotive, but never overwrought.
New single “Feathers Falling” features Amani’s angelic vocals and delicate guitar arrangement over a healthy dose of whirring industrial sub-bass. It feels somewhat contained; restricted and subdued like a caged animal. Amani’s songwriting has the potential for explosive, bombastic pop, but avoiding this route turns out to be the ultimate power play.
Inspired by the death of the singer’s sister, “Feathers Falling” doesn’t shy - sonically or lyrically - from the rawness of tragedy. It is a lilting, cavernous ode to the painful vulnerability left by irredeemable loss, demanding that each and every listener yearn and mourn alongside.
