Alma Elste returns with bewitching new track "Limitless" ahead of London show
Alma Elste has shared a stunning new track titled "Limitless" ahead of an exciting 2016.
She's got some big credentials: Elste studied Harmony at Berklee College Of Music and Philosophy in Paris; her classical pianist mother and Transatlantic family gave her an impressive foothold in "classic French arts and hyperreal, American-inspired sounds and visuals".
Over the past few years, Elste's been popping into our lives with a solitary-but-mesmerising pop track, and then vanishing. 2013 had "Virtualism", 2014 saw "Heart Melter", and last year featured a re-jigged version of "Virtualism". Now we have "Limitless", and what appears to be a halt to Elste's slow drip-feed of noise.
It's a masterful offering. A low throb of bass and sharp crack of fissure beats give "Limitless" a nervy edge - they provide an ear-tingling counterpoint to Elste's effortlessly smooth voice - and we see the atmospheric emotion of yesteryear put to one side. While there are still chilled moments in "Limitless", there's a newfound bite.
Speaking about "Limitless", Elste says: “To me ‘Limitless’ is like a battle song: it's about the battle we go through when we truly love, accepting to push the limits, when we didn't even know we could be capable of such courage. Being heartbroken doesn't mean you lost, it means you probably won against the person who broke you heart, only he or she will never know that.”
Elste is set to play London's Servant Jazz Quarters on 29 February.
"Limitless" is out 5 February, and was written/produced/recorded by Elste. Fabian Prynn helped Elste record, while Antione Bordeaux was on mixing duties, and Benjamin Joubert mastered the track.
