All Things Blue confront unrequited love and manipulation in “Chad”
Taken from their forthcoming debut album, set for release later this year, Los Angeles dream-punk band All Things Blue tackle toxic love on new single “Chad”.
Who doesn’t want to find the sweet spot between the likes of St Vincent and Melody’s Echo Chamber? Enter All Things Blue, a new playful five-piece psych-pop outfit hailing from the streets of Los Angeles. Penning diverse and exhilarating “dream-punk”, the band were named in dedication of the mother of vocalist India Coombs, who would remind her in tough times that things only remain blue for a while, but they always do get better.
Fittingly, new single “Chad” refers to that commonly sad situation where one person is being emotionally strung along by another, whilst the other individual may have sly hopes for some kind of unrealistic future and is left dangling by a thread of occasional attention that creates the illusion that there is something more there. Coombs’ enticing carry-on hook serves as a reminder of her mother’s words, that situations are situations and the blues do not last.
"See-saws are fun until you're riding an emotional see-saw,” explains Coombs, of the scenario that inspired the track. “When you want someone that doesn't want you but makes sure to keep you around for convenient affection.
“Unfortunately, that convenience doesn't go both ways,” she continues. “You'll find yourself waiting around for someone who gives just enough attention to keep your hopes up and make you think ‘this can't just be in my head’ but never enough to feel secure."
