Alicia Clara hits upon dream-pop perfection with new single “Five”
Finding fertile ground on the fringes of pop and shoegaze, Alicia Clara transcends heartbreak and uncertainty into wholesome escapism with "Five", the lead single from her forthcoming EP Outsider/Unusual.
Alicia Clara has always believed music to be a full body and mind experience, something which has reflected in the fragile dream-pop she has dispatched so far. "Five", the lastest release by the Montreal artist, comes as the lead single from her forthcoming EP Outsider/Unusual and warmly echoes such a sentiment.
Having explored styles ranging from psych and alt-pop right through to shoegaze with her band, Clara has very much settled into a winning groove with this poised and meditative track. There is a nostalgia embedded in the airy nineties guitar tones as she pensively ruminates on failed relationships and the human condition on earth.
At the same time, there is very much a healing quality to "Five", which comes as a therapeutic and effortlessly honed pacemaker for the full upcoming collection which arrives in February 2021. “It’s a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy," shares Clara of the track. "About having finally forgiven past hurt, all the while still being unable to let myself feel anything out of fear of getting hurt.”
