Scandinavian singer Alice Boman returns with “What”, the lead track off EP II, the follow up to her 2013 debut, Skisser.
After perfecting her lo-fi bedroom pop with her opening set, Boman has upped the ante with “What” and it’s a sparse, stripped-down beauty. It’s simple in its approach, almost childlike in its melody, and apart from the echoey piano and some faint vocal accompaniments, there’s very little to take the attention away from Boman’s breathy vocal.
Recorded in the Swedish woods, it has that solitary but spacious feel about it, the music often having an almost static feel. Boman is constantly questioning lyrics, “what do you think, when you think about me?’ giving credence to its dreamy, ethereal nature. It’s the sound of holding your breath for four heartbreaking minutes.
EP II is out on 3 June via Happy Death in Europe, Adrian Recordings in Scandinavia and The Control Group in North America.
