Alfie Templeman shines with bedroom-pop charm on the spirited “Who I Am”
Chess Club-signed sixteen-year-old songster Alfie Templeman’s latest offering “Who I Am” is taken from his new EP Don’t Go Wasting Time, and the track emits a sense of longing wrapped in his grounding vocals and sunny production.
Alfie Templeman’s musical abilities began to blossom at the age of seven when he started to learn drums, before he added strings to his bow teaching himself guitar, bass and production at thirteen. With three EPs under his belt and still only a teen, his dedication has paid off, proving himself to be a rising indie-pop star.
“Who I Am” plants matter-of-fact lyrics next to a narrative of nostalgia which grows in a haze of glistening guitars. The whimsical production gives the track a spirited feel, brushing off the sombreness of his lyrics and complementing his boyish charm.
Templeman conveys his emotions with absolute clarity in “Who I Am”, yet holds onto his playful exterior with a youthful, energised video. This colourful display is another visual triumph for director MISC (Harvey Frost), who also directed the charming video for “Used To Love”.
“Recording the ‘Who I Am’ video with MISC was extremely exciting,” says Templeman. “It’s my most energetic video yet and I really gave it my all on the performance side of things and think it really pays off.”
From supporting fellow Chess Club Records signees Sundara Karma, to showcasing his rambunctious energy on festival stages, Alfie Templeman has proven himself to be an artist who's on the rise. He'll be supporting Sports Team and Inhaler on their respective UK tour dates this November and December, before playing The Line Of Best Fit's Five Day Forecast in January.
